God's Garden Must be Beautiful 

It is with deep sympathy that we report the passing of our dear friends.  May they rest in peace. 

Our prayers and thoughts are with their families. 

 Also, please keep in your prayers our 612th veterans and their family members who are ill.

 

Katherine “Tena” Phillips was born the daughter of Walter and Margaret (Siebert) Markwardt in Caldwell, Texas on March 23, 1923.  After serving her Lord well for these many years, it has pleased Him to take her home to Himself and the mansion prepared for her on Monday, December 7, 2009 at the age of 86 yrs, 8 mo, 14 days.

Katherine Markwardt & the late Travis Phillips were joined together as one-in-Christ through Holy Matrimony in Fayetteville, Texas on February 06, 1944.  This union was blessed with one endeared daughter, Vivian Kay.  (However, Tena claimed all the kids around and especially her Godchildren).

U DAVID DUFFY BARTO, 87 years old, of Slovan, PA, died on Friday, July 24, 2009, at The Donnell House in Washington, PA.  He was a veteran of the U.S.  Army in World War II.   Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster recipient.  He was a Life Member of V.F.W.  Post No.  6553 Barto Post and a Life Member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd degree in Burgettstown.  Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Barry Clark Barto; his brothers, John, Fred, Sergie, and Steve Barto; his sisters, Nellie Panameroff and Pauline Guiddy and Repa Fuller.  He is survived by his wife, Alyce Lovin Barto; his daughter, Debra Sheridan (John) of Orland Park, IL; his two sons, David Barto (Deborah) of Paris, PA; and Michael Barto (Rosanne) of Severna Park, MD; his five grandchildren and two great grandchildren; his two sisters, Anne Kempa of Pittsburgh, PA and Vera Bumbera of Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Memorials be made to the : Barry Clark Barto Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o 130 Steubenville Pike, Burgettstown, PA 15021.

LESLIE PEARL NOLAND, age 79, of Tuscaloosa, died July 2, 2009, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services were 3 p.m. July 5, 2009, at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Albert Lyles and Rev. Lawrence Rogers officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. The body lay in state one hour prior to services at the church.
U ROBERT T. NOONAN, SR., 90 of Andover, MA, died on February 11, 2009. He was born on April 15, 1918, in Lawrence to Maurice and Mabel (Metcalf) Noonan.   Bob’s funeral mass was celebrated in St. Augustine Catholic Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover, at 10 AM, Friday, February 20, 2009.  Donations in Robert’s memory may be made to Odyssey Healthcare, 100 I-45 North; Suite 300, Conroe, TX 77301. Interment was in St. Mary-Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence.
FARES CORDOVA of Pueblo, Colorado, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 22, 2009.  Cremation has taken place.  Memorial service, 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 27, Romero Chapel.  Military honors by the Pueblo Veterans Ritual Team.  Inurnment, 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, Fort Logan National Cemetery.
U ALAN FISCHER, the son of 612th veteran Donn Fischer, ReCon Company succumbed to a brain tumor on August 23, 2008.  Letters of condolence may be sent to Donn Fischer, 2521 Canterbury Court, Carrollton, Texas 75006.

 

JAMES "FRANK" BOATRIGHT, age 92, of Main St., Whitesburg, Georgia passed away Sunday, January 4, 2009. He was born May 13, 1916 in Carroll County, Georgia.  Visitation was held Wednesday January 7, 2009, at the Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel.  The funeral was held Thursday January 8, 2009, at Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel.

EDWARD G. WINSLOW, 91, of Bartlett, TN, died December 25, 2008. A public visitation was held from 4:30 – 7 p.m. Monday, December 29th at Forest Hill East Funeral Home. The funeral service was private. The family requests any memorials be sent to Harwood Center, Madonna Learning Center or King’s Daughters and Sons Home. U FRANCES MILLER BERTRAND, 82, passed away on Friday, November 21, 2008 at the Rosewood Nursing Center in Lake Charles.  Rite of Committal followed in the St. Paul Mausoleum with Father Tom Voorhies officiating.  A Rosary was recited at 7:00 pm Saturday evening November 22, 2008.

 

 

GENEVA BRIGHT SMITH, HQ Co., of Chattanooga, TN, died on Monday, November 3, 2008, at a local nursing home.

 

U ANSEL N. DREGGORS, 88, of Astor, FL., a retired troubleshooter for Florida Power & Light, died Tuesday, November 11, 2008.

 

STANLEY GEORGE ZABETAKIS of B Co., 86, of Sun City Center, FL., peacefully passed in his sleep on July 15, 2008 at his home.

U LEO LEMKE - The family of Leo Lemke sent a brief note dated June 15, 2008 stating that Leo had passed away.  Regrettably, no other information was included.

U HELEN LaVERNE RENNARD, 84, wife of the late LeMoyne T. Rennard, died Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

 

MAXINE E. HARTWICK, 88, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2008 in Memorial Hospital.

 

 

 

MICHAEL M. PAPENDICK "Mike" of B Company, age 93, of Highland, IN passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2008.

U RUTH TOWNSEND of St. Petersburg, Florida, the widow of C.W. “Bill” Townsend (Company B) has passed away from cancer on May 2nd 2007.  Funeral services were held for May 8th.

U MARY COONE, the widow of William Coone (Company C and Recon) died on March 3rd, 2007.

U CHARLIE PETTIS of A Company died from congestive heart failure on January 24th, 2007 at the age of 83.  Charlie was married to Annie for 61 years and the proud father of 7 boys and 1 girl.

U JOHN E. “Jack” O’BRIEN, Sr., age 87.  Services were held Monday, October 9, 2006.

U RUFUS H. NOLAND, of B Co., age 87, of Tuscaloosa, died Aug. 27, 2006 at home.   In lieu of flowers please make donations to  Piney Grove Baptist Church, 12123 Sellers Lane, Tuscaloosa, AL 35406.

U MELVIN H. BARR, of Leonard, Texas died on August 2, 2006 at the Clyde Cosper Texas State Veteran’s Home in Bonham.

CLARA EMMA HARDING of Olmsted Falls, OH passed away  July 7, 2006.  Memorial services were held at the Olmsted Community Church.  She was Remembered in Love  July 11, 2006.  The family requests that memorials be sent to the Olmsted Community Church Memorial and Endowment Program.

U ALVIN HARGROVE, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was honored with a full military funeral on March 21, 2006.

U JACK PENUEL, Co. A, of Lascassas, TN, passed away on March 19, 2006 at the age of 89 years.

U HERMAN McCOLLUM, 90, of Winchester, IN, died Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at Randolph Nursing Home, Winchester.

U DEVERS EDWARD BRYANT, 91, of Carrollton, GA., died Saturday, January 7, 2006 at Tanner Memorial Medical Center in Carrollton, GA.

U FOY PEAVY, and his wife Mary, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away in 2006.

Charles William “Bill” Townsend of St. Petersburg, FL died Sunday, October 16th, 2005.

U T. J. TWARDOWSKI passed away on September 15, 2004. No other information is available.

U Homer Prater Powell from Manchester, Tennessee passed away on April 21. 2004.

U PAUL DARRETTA passed away on February 19th, 2004.  He was a licensed minister and veteran of World War II.  He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Daretta, in 2001. Survivors are a son, Paul Darretta of  West Harrison, N.Y., a daughter Judith Darretta of Milpitas, Calif., a sister and four brothers. Cause of death was congestive heart failure after suffering a major heart attack.
